Publication

We’re very small and only publish unknown writers, usually those who had created something that is important to us, (or writers who are Emma).

We are not really in this to compete with the big boys and as such publishing is more to support Emma’s passion for writing and our joint passion for the project

Design

We use a professional artist for our design work.  Maggie is a fantastic artist, responsible for the artwork in most of our books.  If you’re an artist and want to submit a picture book, or if you’ve written a book and have used your own/a colleague’s artwork it will still be considered and will be looked over by our own designer.  If you submit work with images they may be edited by Maggie, but we’ll consult you on this.

Suport

As creative artists in our own rights, we know how hard it can be getting your work noticed, so Reading Room Café Publishing will work with you – and our PR people – to get your book out there.  Because we only make money if your book sells, it is in our interest to promote your work and support you through the process.  Because of our small size, most of our authors are and will be new to publication.  This is where us being little too is really to your advantage.  We’ll be there for you every step of the way, with answers to your questions – if we know them – and a helping nudge when you need one.

Current projects

We run competitions 4 times a year.  This is a really good way of increasing the talent pool and the entries into our competitions so far have been phenomenal.  We have a number of poetry, novel, short story, children’s and non fiction categories with all winners getting published and distributed by Reading Room Café Publishing.  We make a point of NEVER charging an author for their prize, which may seem like an odd thing to say but the more competitions you enter the more likely it is that you’ve come across this unscrupulous practice.

Fundraising is a very important part of what we do, as raising funds for the Reading Room Café is part of our raison d'etre.  Without a hope for the Reading Room Café there would be no the Reading Room Café Publishing.  If you’re interested in the Reading Room Café project, get in touch!

We’re working on getting 7 books out at the moment.  The 3 competition winning books which will be ready before Christmas are of a very high standard, the poetry is excellent, the short stories are gripping and the novel is insightful and a real page turner.

Emma’s children’s novel, Saving Time has just come out and is avaliable in our etsy shop, on amazon or to order from Waterstones.

We also have a thriller, The Women in the Woods by K.B. Stein that should be avaliable from May 2016 :

"There were always stories about the interest Gerry took in young women, filling the cottage with vulnerable women, getting involved in youth groups. Then a, while helping the police with their inquiries a new lead comes up and Gerry is sent into a whirl of excitement and intrigue.
Who's is that baby? And why are there so many women in the woods?

Set in an alternate present, The Women in the Woods is an intense but warm thriller following one woman's search for the killers of her daughter as she uncovers a dark conspiracy and struggles to protect her new family from a dangerous past
"

Maggie and Emma have also collaborated on 2 books, children’s picture book Tacky the Dolphin, in which a little Emma is bought a tacky dolphin balloon by her dad when she visits him for the weekend.  Tacky Emma then go on an adventure to rescue wild dolphins trapped in fishing nets.  Tacky the Dolphin is available in our etsy shop, from amazon or to order from Waterstones.

The other book they’ve worked on is a coffee table recipe book –To Cook and Eat Mythical Beasts – which is a very entertaining tong in cheek take on some lovely myths with spectacular paintings and drawings.  This is a really lovely book and we’ve high hopes for Christmas presents this year!
